Stereo 8, commonly known as the eight-track cartridge, eight-track tape, or simply eight-track, is amagnetic tape sound recording technology. It was popular in the United States from the mid-1960s through the early 1980s, but was relatively unknown in many European countries. Stereo 8 was created in 1964 by a consortium led by Bill Lear of Lear Jet Corporation, along with Ampex, Ford Motor Company, General Motors,Motorola, and RCA Victor Records (RCA). It was a further development of the similar Stereo-Pak four-track cartridge created by Earl "Madman" Muntz. A later quadraphonic version of the format was announced by RCA in April 1970 and first known as Quad-8, then later changed to just Q8.

The original format for magnetic tape sound reproduction was the ree-to-reel tape recorder, first available in the U.S. in the late 1940s but too expensive and bulky to be practical for amateur home use until well into the 1950s. Loading a reel of tape onto the machine and threading it through the various guides and rollers proved daunting to some casual users—certainly, it was more difficult than putting a vinyl record on a record player and flicking a switch—and because in early years each tape had to be dubbed from the master tape in real-time to maintain good sound quality, prerecorded tapes were more expensive to manufacture, and costlier to buy, than vinyl records.

 During most of the slot car craze of the late sixties, I was too young and too poor to really play. When I was a few years older, a teen, and had my own newspaper route, and cash to spend, slot car racing was already gone. But it has remained alive in my imagination ever since!

I really like the time display. When you set the alarm for the morning, it dims, so it does not disturb my sleep, yet when I wake up in the middle of the night, I can see exactly when I got up. This was not possible with the old version.

The harness that goes to the Tel adaptor is under the passenger side sill. Remove the kick plate and your there. There is a small harness which leaves this one, I went slightly towards the rear of it and removed about 10cm of the tape on the harness to make it easy to locate the cables required. Unfortunately there is more than one of each colour in the harness so you need to check with a multimeter that you have the right one as this one harness carries other functions to the rear. The four wires seemed close together in the harness and are the smaller wires. I used a small dress makers pin to go through the insulation to test each wire.

 I got this for christmas after looking at shelf systems and reading tons of reviews.. Let me just say it was more than I expected and is the best thing ever. The sound has great clarity and amazing bass.. I would definitely recommend this to anyone!!! It is pricey but well worth it. I am in love

I purchased this CD player for my elderly mother who has very low vision. She spends much of her day listening to books on CD. This CD player has simple features and large buttons, making it very easy for her to use successfully. She even uses the radio, a bonus that I hadn't expected!

It also describes this substantial machine as a DAC plus a transport, which is odd given that in most respects it seems to be an integrated player. It's the plethora of inputs and the fact that it can accept high-res digital signals that explains this approach.
